Xaero’s Minimap for Minecraft
The mod Xaero’s Minimap is a Minecraft mod that adds a minimap to the game interface. The minimap shows the surrounding terrain, including nearby mobs and players, and can be customized with different display options. Xaero’s Minimap is compatible with both the single-player and multiplayer modes of Minecraft, and is popular among players who enjoy exploration and navigation in the game. The mod is named after its creator, Xaero, who has also developed other popular Minecraft mods.
Like many other Minecraft mods, you will need a mod loader to play using Xaero’s Minimap. We have guides on how to download and install Fabric and Forge for Minecraft. For this guide we will be using the Forge instance, however if you choose Fabric, the steps are pretty much the same, and you can still follow this guide.

Step 2 – Install Xaero’s Minimap
Once you have downloaded the mod, go ahead and open your Minecraft launcher. In the launcher, head over to the “Installations” tab. (See the image below for reference)
In the Installations tab, find either your Forge or your Fabric instance, make sure it matches the version of Xaero’s Minimap you downloaded earlier. For this tutorial, we are using Forge 1.19.4.
Once you have found your Forge or Fabric instance, hover over it, and click on the folder that appears on the right.
When the folder for the mod loader of your choosing opens, find the folder named “Mods”. If the folder “Mods” does not exist, go ahead and create it. (To create a folder, simply right click, select “New”, and then click New Folder. Name the folder “Mods”)
Once you located the Mods folder, open it.
With the Mods folder open, drag and drop the mod file we downloaded earlier. (See the image below)
Step 3 – Using Xaero’s Minimap in Minecraft
Once you added the mod to the Mods folder, go back to the Minecraft launcher, and click play in the Mod Loader you added Xaeros to. In this case, we are using Forge.
After you clicked play and Minecraft opens, go ahead and launch a world, it can be Singleplayer or Multiplayer, as you will see, this minimap mod works offline as well as online. This is a client side mod.
If you press the key bind [Y] the options for Xaero’s Minimap will show, in here you can customize things like the Waypoints settings, Overlay settings, Change the position of the minimap, etc.
