NeoForge is a rebranded project from the makers or Forge. Like Forge or Fabric, NeoForge works as a mod loader for the popular video game Minecraft. In this guide, we will teach you how to download and install NeoForge.
Once you are in the NeoForge website, go ahead and click the button labeled as “Click here to go to the version list!”
You will be redirected to the page in the image below.
Now you will see a menu that has all the recent versions of NeoForge.
Select the version you want to download and click the Download button as shown below.
Now you should see the NeoForge installer within your recent download history in your browser, or you can also find the file in your downloads’ folder within your PC.
Go ahead and launch the file we downloaded in the previous step.
You will now see the mod system installer, if you have any issues opening the installer, you might need to update your Java.
Now you should see NeoForge installing.
When the installation has completed, you will see the prompt below.
After we install NeoForge in the step above, we can launch our Minecraft launcher, where we will see the NeoForge instance automatically selected.
If you want to add mods to NeoForge, you will head over to the Installations tab within the Minecraft Launcher.
Now click the folder icon that appears when you hover over the NeoForge instance.
You will see a folder that contains a lot of files, you are looking for a specific folder called “mods”
If you don’t see this folder, you can create it yourself.
Drag and drop any mod that you wish to add to NeoForge. Then, close the folder, and head back to the launcher.
To play, all you have to do now is click the “Play” button that shows within the NeoForge instance.
That is it, you have completed the installation process for NeoForge.
NeoForge is completely safe to download as long as you download it from the official website.
According to the makers, NeoForge is a free, open-source, community-oriented modding API for Minecraft.
As of today Optifine should be compatible with NeoForge, however, this might change in the future.
No, NeoForge and Forge are two different projects. Even though they share a similar team of developers and the same base code, they are separate mod loaders.
For the initial stages, Forge mods and NeoForge mods, will be cross-compatible with each other, however, this might change in the future as both mod loaders evolve into different paths.
